Volunteers at Friends of the Needy help prepare food boxes for individuals and families in need. The size and contents of each food box are determined by availability and the specific needs of the client, as assessed by our staff or trained volunteers.
Food boxes are primarily composed of rescued food from local grocery stores, supplemented by community donations.
Clients may receive one food box every seven days. A government-issued ID is required at the time of pickup, and the client must be present to receive the food.
Hours of Food Box Distribution (first come, first served):

Clients with children may receive one one-gallon ziplock bag of diapers every 7 days.
Baby food and infant formula are available on a case-by-case basis, depending on availability and assessed need.
Distribution of these items is coordinated alongside our regular food box schedule (please see distribution times above).

For Gilbert residents who are homebound, without transportation, or facing special circumstances, Friends of the Needy may offer limited home delivery of emergency food boxes.
Delivery requests are reviewed on a case-by-case basis and depend on:
• Volunteer driver availability
• Delivery capacity
• Safety considerations
• Program eligibility
Home delivery is not guaranteed, but we are committed to serving those with genuine need whenever possible.

Do you provide food boxes every week?
Yes. We distribute food boxes four times a week. Each client is eligible to receive one food box once every 7 days.
What is required to receive a food box?
A government-issued photo ID is required at the time of pickup.
May I pick up a food box for a friend or relative?
No. Clients must be present in person to receive a food box.
When is the best time to arrive for a food box?
Food boxes are distributed from 8:00 AM to 11:00 AM on Tuesdays, Wednesdays, Thursdays, and Saturdays. Because we operate on a first-come, first-served basis, we recommend arriving at 7:00 AM.
How can I volunteer my time?
All volunteers must be compliant with the Diocese of Phoenix Safe Environment Training before participating. Once compliant, please reach out through our “Contact Us” form to inquire about available volunteer dates.
